food corner#3 family cooking

Hello everyone(≧∇≦)/

It's me Fern, welcome again to my blog!! Since I have a long holiday this week so I went back to my hometown in Nakhon Sawan. I went to the temple with my family to make a merit and gave food offering to a monk because it was Asarnha Puja Day and Buddhist Lent day which is important for Buddhist. It helps lessen my stress to do good things. Now I'm ready to fight with a tough and rough time of the study again. (^_^;)

Mom and I usually spent time together in our kitchen when we have a holiday. For this time after we went marketing and found that there were a plenty of young tamarind ,mom suddenly had an idea to do young tamarind paste for us.

Here is ingredients

young tamarinds 200 grams
minced pork 100 grams
shrimp paste 3 tbs
garlic 1/4 measuring cup
guinea pepper 20 seeds
sugar 1/4 measuring cup
oil 1/2 measuring cup
fish sauce 2 tbs
++other's recipe may add dried salted prawn too++

preparations
1.mash garlic, young tamarind and guinea pepper throughly with mortar.
2.add shrimp paste, minced pork, stir it together.
3.add oil into the pan, use medium hight heat, put all of ingredients into the pan, fry it until browned and cooked.
4.flavouring with fish sauce and sugar.
5.serve with cucumber or others fresh vegetables.

Finish (^_^)
You can keep the remains in refrigerator for about 1 month. Mom said fried tamarind paste is one method of food preservation by using heat.
In the evening,my family have dinner together at home and everyone in my family love this menu because it is not too spicy and fulled flavour.
For me, young tamarind paste made me asked for more cooked rice. ^^

Nutrient from this menu: young tamarind contains fiber, calcium, phosphorus, iron and vitamin A,B1,B2 , niacin. Rich of vitamin C that prevent you from bleeding gum.

Next menu is prepared by me. It is "steamed egg dressing with fried chopped pork and vegetables" or in Thai we called "kai tun song kreung"

mom choosing eggs
Mom gives the tips of how to choose eggs; use your finger smear on egg's peel,if you feel a bit rough that is a new egg.

Let's prepare ingredients! I'll start with steamed egg's ingredients.
egg 3
chicken stock 1 cup(I use knorr instant chicken stock instead)
light soy sauce 1 tbs
white pepper 1/2 tbs

steamed egg's preparations
1.crack eggs and put in a bowl, stir it well then add chicken stock, stir it gently for no bubble, seasoning with light soy sauce and white pepper.
2.foil it (if you have)then place the bowl in steamer, use medium hight heat for 10-15 minutes and leave it cool.

dressing's ingredients
minced pork 100 grams
diced onion 50 grams
diced chinese mushroom 50 grams
diced tomato 30 grams
chopped garlic 10 grams
tomato sauce 2 tbs
chicken stock 2 tbs
oil 1 tbs
salt 1 tbs
white pepper 1/2 teaspoon
parsley

dressing's preparation
1.heat up the pan then put oil and wait until it hot.
2.put diced garlic fry it until you smell the fragrance then add minced pork, fry it well.
3.put all of vegetables, add tomato sauce, chicken stock.
4.seasoning with white pepper and salt.
5.put it on the top of steamed egg, dressing with parsley.

now it's ready to serve
it looks delicious isn't it?
I experienced 2 of problems from preparing steamed egg.First,I used Knorr instant chicken stock instead of real chicken stock and the result is its color become deep yellow.I think it should come out to be light yellow but luckily the taste is still good.
Second problem is,I didn't use foil,so it made the surface of steamed egg uneven and its texture has a bit heavy and dense because steamed egg is directly exposed to steam.Next time I think I should use foil.
Before saying goodbye, I want to tell you that this is my most favoutite blog since there are 2 blogs previously because this is not only me do cooking but there is my mom who is the advisor. I love the time when we went shopping at the local market together and most of all I also had dinner with my family at home. It really was a good time and I would try another occasion do the family cooking again, may be you will meet the rest member of my family too.
Thank you for following this blog

See you next time BYE!!

Review: "The Adventures of Tin Tin" (2011)

WARNING - Spoiler Alert

From the famous comic series to the animated movie, ‘The Adventure of Tin Tin (The Secret of the Unicorn)’ leads the audiences to the world of adventure and mysterious. This film is one of precious works from Steven Spielberg, wizard of the Hollywood.

With realistic style plot, this comic’s logics are acceptable. Almost everything in the story is related to each others, one can be a clue that leads to another steps.  And when it was turned into the film, these facts effect the storyline to be not too speeded or like it was cut any part of the original plot. Therefore, when watching the film, everything is smoothly played.

Starts with the intro before the story begin, there is a short comic-style that show some part of the previous story in the Tin Tin’s series, which make a feeling like watching a short film.

In contrast, it is surely hard (or causing confusion) for the audiences who never experience the comic version before to understand the before-the-film-was situations. The film shows no clue for the basic information of the original story, The Adventures of Tin Tin, like it was build for the audience group that already knows who Tin Tin is.

Tin Tin in realistic version is a good looking guy, right?
However, the film follows most of the actions that took place on the original cartoon book. Sound effects and soundtracks are well added in perfect timing. Everything in the film is almost like the real one. In the first part of the movie, I think I am watching real people acting in the movie! The texture details, even cloth’s fabric, are perfectly done.

For the other main characters, we cannot overlook the appearance of Snowy and Caption Haddock who make this film more attractive and pleasant. Snowy is so smart, cute, and a lot resemble to the original in the comic’s (the only difference is that we do not know what this little guy thinks). This is funny when sometimes it seems like Snowy is the protagonist, not Tin Tin. Captain Haddock, too, is the one who steal Tin Tin’s thunder in film version.

The last fight of Haddock (left) and Sakharine (right).
Some points in this film make me feeling funny: the antagonist, Ivan Ivanovitch Sakharine, no matter what he was treated (rolled, or dropped in the sea) his glasses is still on his face. This is an animation, after all.

For all those reason, I would like to rate this film almost full scores, with 4½ out of 5. Recommended to watch, especially for the one who loves the adventure genre films.  Even if this is an animation, it is fully filed with amusement.

For Asian skin, It might be unnecessary to prepare by using tanning products or soaking in the sun because Asian skin usually looks darker but it very necessary for western people because Their skin are very light and pale, so they want to have darker skin all year round as much as possible.

Food Corner #2 pad kana moo dang

Khao Moo Dang or Steamed rice with Red-cooked pork is one of my
favourite menu since I was young because it is delicious, not spicy, and
the most important is, it is a ready meal, you don't have to wait it for longtime.
I usually ate it before going to school because there was a Chinese restaurant in
front of my home, I became a big fan of Khao Moo Dang since then.
Basicly,we often order Khao Moo Dang from Chinese restaurant.

This time I am going to show you how to prepare Pad Ka Na Moo Dang
that I have created it myself. This menu is happened in one day when my mom was
not at home and there is nothing left in the fridge except freezed "Red-cooked
Pork" and "Chinese kale".So,I managed to do cooking for my lunch.

Let's start

-red sauce- actually is the topping of khao moo dang but in this cooking I've prepare it to be the main ingredient of pad kana moo dang, because in the sauce has all of good taste its self but the primary taste is sweet .
-red sauce ingredients-
4 tbsp. light soy sauce
1 cup of pork broth
4 tbsp. brown sugar
1 tbsp. ketchup
1 tbsp. sesame oil
1/4 cuptapioca flour mixed with water

-red sauce instruction-
1. melt the brown sugar and tapioca flour mixed with water, continue heating until all of ingredients mixed well.
2. add sesame oil, ketchup, pork broth and a bit of light soy sauce.

3. stiring it in a medium high heat around 10 minutes and leave it cool.

- red pork- I bought the red cooked pork from the market because it has complicated order to do.

-pad kana moo dang instruction-
1. clean kana very well and peel it skin off, because kana's skin is sticky and thick.

2. cut kana into small pieces.

3. boil kana in a light high heat to make it soft.
4. put red sauce in the pot stir it for a while and put the slices of red pork.
5. put kana into the pot stir it again and light off.

Finish!!

After I tasted it, I give

of 5 star to myself

Because I've put too much sugar on it and it becomes too sweet. -*-

Next time, I should have reduce the quantity of sugar but I think the overall is okay.

For the food appearnce, I think it is quite normal I should have do some decoration

on the plate. So,next time I will do it better I promise!!

Q;How about the nutrition and calories??

A:One plate of white boiled rice give you around 242 calories, you will also get

carbohydrate that give energy to your body.

Red-cooked gives you around 476 calories ,it also gives you protein and vitamin B1 too.

Chinese Kale,is a very rich in vitamin C and gives you just 36 calories.

Total amount of calories from this menu= 754 calories ,which means you can eat

more in this day!! But if you are the one who wants to lose weight, this menu is

quite big for you :D

How many star you would you give to this menu???

xx thanks for following xx

xx See you next meal xx

D.I.Y # 2 Your own picture frame

Hello everyone!

Welcome to my D.I.Y. blog.

This is my D.I.Y.'s second episode, and I would like to present you all a D.I.Y.'s special gift for every occasion. <3

This gift, I will show you how to do, is easy to make; and it can be used as a present for any occasion. For example, a birthday gift, a graduation day gift, and Valentine’s Day gift.

********************************

1.     picture frame (any color as you please)
2.     color paper or wrapping paper
3.     Sticker (alphabet, heart, flower, etc. )
4.     Ready-made paper (available at any stationary store, various theme!)
5.     card
6.     glue, scissors, color pen
7.     Everything you would like to have in the frame; such as, photos, movies ticket (this is very sweet), clock, and etc. (Anything would be better)

>>> First step is - - - design your frame, put some sticker and photos to get the whole picture

>>> Second step is - - - paste color paper and wrapping paper as the background of the frame.

>>> Third step is - - - desire where you would like to put photos, card, or clock.

>>> Then - - - stick everything by glue.

>>> Finally - - - decorate your frame as you wish with any accessory like stickers, ready-made paper.

>>> Then, you D.I.Y. picture frame is done! Next step is giving it to your special person on special occasion.

*** Don't forget to write a card ***

This photo is some example that may provide you some idea.

I like this D.I.Y. picture frame; I did one and gave it to the senior last year.

My senior brother and I and my D.I.Y. gift  I gave him.
The reason I choose to do D.I.Y picture frame because I would like to put photos, card, and so on. If I just give only card or flower, it’s too simple for me and flower will not last long :( and card may goes somewhere else such as in portfolio.

Except the picture frame! It must be on the wall or the desk. So, the receiver can see it every time; and I’m sure that they will love it, absolutely!!

Review: “Gnomeo and Juliet” (2011)

WARNING - Spoiler Alert

‘Gnomeo and Juliet’ is one of the computer-animated family comedy film works from Walt Disney. This film based on William Shakespeare's play ‘Romeo and Juliet’. Released date was on February, 2011.

The picture is as beautiful as expected from the Shrek’s making team and colors are suited for kid’s movie, even details are done so well enough to cause the feeling of real ceramic dolls.

Even if the main plot is almost the same to the original ‘Romeo and Juliet’ play, the way this movie moves makes difference, most in a comedy and adventure style. Watchers can easily sense some cliché points along the story, but by cute and humorous characters the story is not boring at all.

This film surely has many jokes which appear in timing. The tuning point to become, what we can predictably know but still mentally support along the story, happy ending.

Somehow this film seems like the adventure of Sinbad (or something in relate) with the theme of two families against each other. LOL

With the over-gnome power, Gnomeo (and the others) can fight and spin in the air like a stuntman from action movie. Anyway, the logic of being ‘the ceramic doll’ is still hold the important role, which I think the producers wisely are used it to make the movie became more exciting.

Featherstone, the plastic flamingo, is the one of many sub-characters who makes the story went smoothly. (I like him the most, how tragedy his life was!)

Story-line is well placed (the story move chronologically. Anyway, the plot is still easy to predict, same as any others children rated movie from Walt Disney). Events in the first part of the story are related to the other part, such as lawnmowers race. I love the idea of using the lawnmower as a car, and soon as the destroyer for the peak of the story.

Anyway, I think that the first part of the movie is kind of boring, even though the movie is included with some action scenes (which also showed in the trailers). Soundtracks which was using in the beginning are somehow prosaic. On the other hand, the following part of the movie is quite fun. Maybe because the plot that was changed from the original, and the continuity that is exciting.

So... I would rate this film with 3 ½ out of 5. ‘Gnomeo and Juliet’ is entertaining than what I expected from the first place.
